⚠️ DOES NOT WORK WITH OPTIFINE — USE OCULUS + EMBEDDIUM ⚠️
This mod completely rethinks explosions in Minecraft, making them incredibly realistic and dynamic. Enjoy unique explosion sounds that change depending on the distance and environment, tangible shockwaves and concussions, as well as realistic visual effects, including plasma sparks and fire clouds. Experience the true destructive power of explosions like never before!
⚠️ Disclaimer
The Explosion Overhaul mod features intense and highly realistic explosion effects, including powerful sound design and immersive visual effects. These elements may be overwhelming for some users, potentially causing discomfort, stress, or sensitivity issues — especially for those sensitive to loud noises or strong visual stimuli.
Please use the mod with caution, particularly in environments where sudden loud sounds or intense visual effects could cause discomfort or unintended reactions.

⚙️ Features (as of v0.2.3.0 beta)
🔊 Dynamic Sound
- Explosion sounds scale with distance — from a deafening roar up close to a distant muffled echo, up to 5 kilometers.
- Environment matters — a cave explosion will echo loudly; inside a house you'll only hear a muffled rumble from outside.
- Explosion power matters — a weak creeper and a massive TNT detonation sound completely different.
- Sound travels at a realistic speed — you'll see the flash first, then hear the shockwave.
- 7 Power Tiers — explosions are categorized into 7 distinct power levels, each with unique audio characteristics.
- Ambient Sound System — optional background explosion sounds create an immersive battlefield atmosphere. Includes single explosions, chain reactions, and artillery shelling scenarios.
- Multi-Range Sound Pools — dedicated sound variations for close (≤50m), medium (≤500m), far (≤1000m), and super-far (≤5000m) distances with environmental modifiers.
💥 Visual Effects
- Every explosion is a spectacular, dynamically expanding fireball that fills the space — forget about standard puffs of smoke.
- Bright sparks fly from the epicenter, and the fireball gradually cools into thick smoke.
- Electrical Discharge Effects — electrical sparks radiate from explosion centers with adjustable density.
- Atmospheric Effects — ground dust clouds and mist.
- Dynamic Flash — screen flash effect that scales with explosion power, distance, and visibility.
🌍 Tangible Impact on the World
- Camera Shake — feel the shockwave; the effect is stronger in enclosed spaces.
- Cave-ins — powerful underground explosions cause the ceiling to tremble, throwing down dust, rocks, and dripstones.
- Power Surges — the shockwave can temporarily disrupt the power grid. Nearby Redstone lamps will flicker and spark unpredictably.
- Realistic Craters — explosion craters now look more realistic with scattered debris and displaced earth around the edges.
- Glass Breaking & Dripstone Falling — explosions shatter glass blocks and cause pointed dripstone to fall.
- Player Push Effects — physical knockback in enclosed spaces, synchronized with camera shake.
- Explosion Clustering — nearby explosives merge into single, more powerful detonations for realistic chain reactions.
🧠 Concussion System
A complex simulation of shock that dynamically alters the perception of the world depending on explosion power, distance, environmental conditions, and player state. It is not a simple effect or a fixed timer — the mechanic works in stages, has phases, variable intensity, and adapts to circumstances.
- Low-Pass Effect — temporary hearing loss caused by extreme sound pressure.
- Tinnitus — a characteristic ringing in the ears after a nearby explosion.
- Blur — temporary visual blurring due to shock state.
- Camera Instability — swaying and blurring of vision, with heartbeat reacting to stress, injuries, and adrenaline.
- In open spaces, confined caves, behind obstacles, or at the very epicenter — the consequences are always different.
🤝 Mod Compatibility
Explosion Overhaul is designed to work with most popular military mods "out of the box." Here's the current compatibility status:
| Mod | Status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| TaCZ | ✅ 100% | Full integration. All explosions from weapons and vehicles use our system. |
| SuperB Warfare | 👍 99% | Near-perfect compatibility. The vast majority of explosions are handled. |
| Big Cannons | 👍 99% | Basic projectile explosions are supported; more complex types may use vanilla mechanics. |
| Warrium | 🟠 40% | Partial compatibility. ⚠️ DO NOT detonate the Atomic Bomb. |
This list will be updated. If you notice that explosions from a particular mod aren't using Explosion Overhaul effects, please let us know!

🛠️ Troubleshooting / Frequent Crash Causes
⚠️ WARNING: Explosions with power >50 may be unstable. Please take this into account.
If you are experiencing crashes or issues launching the game, check the following:
- Incorrect Forge Version — use Forge 47.4.0 exactly. Other versions may cause crashes.
- Using OptiFine — replace OptiFine with Oculus + Embeddium. OptiFine conflicts with many mods.
- Mod Incompatibility — try launching without other mods to isolate the problem.
